Hey yall! My name is Courtney and I am a Senior at UofL and a Communication Major with a minor in psychology. On top of that I work part time and am a full time mommy. Being a super busy single mom I LOVE technology! For me, it makes life a ton easier (except when my wonderful daughter decides it to be fun to drop said technology into my perfect cup of coffee, or makes the decision for my phone that my phone is apparently suicidal and wants to jump onto the concrete.) My phone, although not the brand of SideKick, is my ultimate side kick. If I did not have that little hunk of glass and wood (yes, wood), then I would literally have no idea where I am supposed to be and when. The calendar is such a vital piece of my life it is actually kind of pathetic. I even have to put when to hang out with my friends into my calendar. I am also a huge music buff so I have almost 1,000 songs on my phone as well :)
My other fabulous piece (not being sarcastic) of technology that I have delightfully purchased would be the tablet on which I have the pleasure of typing this blog. It is a Asus Windows 8 Transformer and it is heavenly. I decided to get something to assist me in my studies to finish out my college career and this was the exact right choice to make! Besides feeling like I am making a sales pitch right now, I am elated about school now having this to help me get through. With the new Windows 8 technology and OneNote program, it is so easy to stay on task and organized.
Now I want to touch base about radio!!! I love radio! I love music! So much in fact, that I have a tattoo of a star made of music notes and I want to get a career in radio one day. The thing I use radio for is music and only music. Finding new music, new artists, new genres that spark my interest. Unlike my dear father, anytime I hear a commercial or hear someone speak at all on the radio, I switch the channel. Which is sort of contradictory in itself since I want to be the radio personnel one day and I would like it if people would listen to me....So I should probably start listening. I hate commercials but I do find talk shows that are not only about drama, interesting. NPR for example, I have been forced to listen to a time or two and find it pretty dang interesting and is a great way to keep up to date on the current events around the globe.
So I mentioned I want to be in radio, and not to be a fortune teller, but I am going to try here for a minute to predict what the future holds for our dear media medium of the radio. Over time, the radio has become more flooded with commercials and advertisements, which is very smart of both the radio people and those who are for the companies who have their businesses advertised. Radio is gaining more listeners all of the time because we can access it literally from anywhere! Of course in our cars, while we are commuting to work or school, on our phones, our computers, tablets, etc. Radio is the one medium that we have open access to live stream anywhere we go. Therefore, in the future it will become even more so that way, so I think more and more companies are going to take advantage of these facts and invest in getting radio to advertise for their companies whether it be an actual commercial or just a spiel about their products. Super exciting right!?!? But like I said I am no fortune teller, so in the mean time I won't quit my day job and continue to listen to my music :)
