So for this entry we are to write about out first memories of computers and the internet, BUT I do not remember because we always had at least one computer in my house as far back as I can remember as well as computer classes in school. So I guess I will go into what all i DO remember.
So we still have the huge, white box computer in my parents basement that we literally had my entire life. It wasn't until about 5 years ago that they upgraded and got a huge laptop. (Losers) On this computer I would play the super cool snake game that came on the computers. We also played a lot of minecraft and those super basic games. haha #basic.
Once i started school we went to computer lab once per week and did a lot of typing games to figure out how well we could type and to force us to use our correct fingers. I never understood it until I got to college and type everyday and type super fast all while using the home keys and typing the correct. way. But now they do not have computer lab in school which is totally not smart!
So then in my lifetime timeline, I picked up a little game called Sims. I was obsessed and if I had more time in my life I would totally still play. My favorite part of the game was building the houses down to every single detail and not having to spend a penny! That's the best part!
So in my life now computers and the internet plays a huge part as I have said before. When it comes to school it would literally be impossible to do any homework or get a good grade without having internet access and an available computer.

^^^THE ultimate symbol ever! If you have never seen this before, you are living under a rock. Literally.
One way the internet changed me was when I was a student at JCC, I really was taught how to do proper research on the internet and how to find reliable sources and be able to cite them. So before that, I always had to go to the library and look up the books one at a time, which not only took forever, but I had to actually hunt for what I needed. So then, after my JCC professor taught us how to use PsychInfo and other databases of scholarly journals online, I was able to do all of the research I needed on the computer, and it was much more effective and accurate.
On that same topic, when I was doing research for a project at JCC, I had a huge mistake AND a huge recovery in the same moment. So one day, I was finishing up a project and had written a 5 page paper with 8 sources, all sited properly, and I went to print it out and it was gone. I had everything on my computer and I knew it was all there, but all of this work was now just gone?!?! I was freaking out because it was due the next day! Well, I started freaking out, looking around and realized that my dear, dear little girl had taken out my jump drive, which contained my paper on it. HAHA!! I was so used to the stick always being in my computer I did not think to check to see if it was there. Being used to those huge floppy disks, it was quite the adjustment.
---> So in class, we learned that with new technologies, we get rid of older ones. So kids growing up today, have never seen a floppy disk and jump drives are the size of a thumb nail! Everything is getting smaller and smaller, as we continue to help simplify (or make more difficult) our lives.
